Family learning encompasses a wide range of informal and formal learning activities that involves families developing an understanding of, and the skills involved in, family roles, relationships and responsibilities.
Informal family learning is based on learning practices within the home and the neighbourhood, and include a range of activities such as parents reading with their children, playing games, painting, drawing and other inter generational activities- for example grandparents and grandchildren understanding family history.
Formal family learning encompasses adults and children learning together, or sometimes separately, as part of a planned programme of activities.
